Medical Secretary, Mersea
Mersea Island Medical Practice
Mersea Island Medical Practice has an opportunity for a medical secretary to join our practice on a part time basis, hours to be discussed at interview.
Mersea Island Medical Practice is situated on the west side of Mersea Island, just South-East of Colchester, on the Essex Coast. They have a list size of around 7,500 patients. The team includes 10 GP’s, a Nursing team of 6, as well as the practice manager, administrative and reception staff.
Main duties of the job include:
Providing a full secretarial service for all GPs and health professionals as required.
Sending referrals via eRS and email, using Ardens templates and formatting letters, reports, and any other correspondence in an accurate and timely manner. This includes some audio typing (Lexacom) but mainly the processing of tasks on EMIS WEB.
Dealing with hospital, clinical, patient and practice queries via phone and email regarding hospital appointments, correspondence and treatments.
Following up GP requests for information.
Managing advice and guidance provided.
Maintaining the computer-based clinic system in an accurate and secure manner.
Maintaining an accurate referrals database.
Performing any administrative tasks requested by the practice operations manager.
You will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
Administrative experience and good organisational skills.
General IT skills and experience of working within a secretarial environment
Excellent communication skills and a friendly approach.
Have an understanding of maintaining confidentiality and data security at all times.
Ability to multitask and to work accurately under pressure.
Ability to work as part of a team, as well as being comfortable working independently.
Ability to cover colleagues absence for sickness and annual leave.
EMIS experience preferable but not essential as training can be provided
