Every year in July, Samaritans branches across the UK and Ireland hold events and campaign to raise awareness that the Samaritans are there to listen to anyone who is struggling all hours of the day or night. Samaritans Awareness Day is on 24th July so they are raising awareness throughout July, to let people know that support is available 24/7. This campaign provides opportunities for engagement and support whilst highlighting the importance of talking about mental health and encouraging people to reach out for help when needed.
Samaritans are also encouraging people to become better listeners, to help provide support to loved ones who may be struggling to cope, whilst improving relationships with friends, family and work colleagues.
Samaritans have answered more than 134 million calls from people struggling to cope over the last 70 years. They respond to a call for help every 10 seconds.
Samaritans volunteers are available to listen and talk 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you feel you are not coping and struggle to reach out to family or friends, Samaritans are there to talk with you, whatever you are going through. Talking can not only focus your thoughts and concerns, but can provide connections, and prevent any feelings of loneliness and isolation. If you feel you need to speak with Samaritans, they are available 24/7:
