Good Care Month is celebrated for the whole month of July! It aims to acknowledge and celebrate hard working health and social care workers and unpaid carers whilst highlighting the importance of the services they provide across the UK to the elderly, disabled and anyone who requires a carer.
Good care is all about compassion, patience, skill, reliability and empathy! Where the number of people living for longer has grown rapidly, and life expectancy has increased, the aging population is a huge reason for why health and social care is so important. It is estimated that by 2036, one in four of the population will be over 65, meaning care workers will be needed more than ever!
Care workers are there to not only provide the practical support to people, but emotional support too. They will work with individuals needing care, their families and those within the community to assist them in their day to day living to give them a better quality of life. They provide support in nursing homes, care homes, social and community centres and individuals homes.
This campaign provides the opportunity to celebrate care staff but it can also give:
A fair understanding of what being a carer means
Recognition of the hard work carers do every day
Increased number of carers upskilling
Inspiring people pursuing a career in the care sector
A care worker helps the lives of those in need and can make a positive difference to the life of someone needing extra help and support. Not all carers are paid though - some have no qualifications in care, they just have care responsibilities for a family or friend. Each year it is estimated 4.3 million people become unpaid carers in the UK - regardless of their age, finances, personal commitments, and skills.
