Know Your Numbers! is the week long campaign that takes place every September! Here at the Colte Partnership we are stretching it into a month long campaign to highlight the importance of high blood pressure, encouraging all UK adults to get a blood pressure check and to be aware of what your numbers mean!
6 million people in the UK have high blood pressure and don’t know it. This campaign aims to reach people in order to raise awareness for blood pressure, get those that have been diagnosed the treatment and support they need to bring it under control to prevent heart attacks and strokes. It doesn’t have any symptoms so, the only way to find out is to have a blood pressure check.
When monitoring your readings, as a general guide:
• 140/90mmHg or over – you may have high blood pressure
• 120/80mmHg up to 140/90mmHg – pre-high blood pressure
• 90/60mmHg up to 120/80mmHg – ideal blood pressure
• 90/60mmHg or lower – you may have low blood pressure
There are many ways that you can get your blood pressure checked:
Use the self service machine in your GP surgery and provide your reading to a member of the reception staff
Book an appointment with the HCA or Nurse at your GP surgery to have them take your blood pressure reading
Purchase a home blood pressure monitor and provide your GP surgery with a reading
If you are aged 40+ and are not already being treated for high blood pressure, you can visit your pharmacy where they offer free checks
