November is the month that the spotlight is put on men's health and people get together to raise awareness of key issues such as men's mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
International Men's Day is celebrated on November 19th in over 80 countries to focus on the health and wellbeing of men, promote gender equality, celebrate positive contributions and encourage positive male role models.
Many men take part in Movember - the annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the whole month. By encouraging men to get involved, it aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatment, whilst getting men to take control of their physical and mental health. 1 in 8 men in England has suffered from a mental health issue, and 3 out of 4 suicides are by men.
Compared to women, men tend to be more reluctant to seek help or treatment for their health concerns. Movember aims to act as a visible symbol for men's health and to help tackle the stigma around men's mental health.
