This week is Eating Disorder Awareness Week - around 1.25 million people in the UK suffer from these illnesses, many in secret. They are of all ages, genders and backgrounds. Eating disorders include bulimia, binge eating, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and anorexia. But, with the right treatment and support, recovery is possible.
Beat is the UK's Eating Disorder Charity who's mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders and increase understanding that it is not about being fussy or attention seeking but are conditions with serious consequences for health.
Support is available in a number on ways on the Helpline via phone, email, webchat through social media and by letter. The charity provides help for people of all ages, offering support and information about eating disorders along the entire journey. They encourage people to get help quickly, in order to take positive steps and increase their chance of recovery. Not only do they support sufferers of eating disorders, but they also support family and friends, providing skills and advice to look after their loved ones and themselves.
