World Pharmacist's Day is held on the 25th September each year, and is a day to recognise pharmacists for the role they play in improving global health. It's a celebration of every pharmacist, pharmaceutical scientist, and others who are part of this field. Four million people are engaged in this profession around the world!
Pharmacists not only dispense to you the medication you need and use each day, but they can provide advice and treatment for many health conditions and issues that you may suffer with. They can give advice about prescriptions, drug dosages, risks and how to store medication. Pharmacists also contribute to the research and testing of new drugs.
PharmacyFirst is the NHS service for patients to get help from pharmacies with some common minor conditions making it simpler for everyone to get healthcare advice and treatment more quickly. You can visit your local pharmacy and have a chat with the pharmacist about a number of health conditions without the need for a GP appointment:
Sinusitis
Sore throat
Earache
Infected insect bite
Impetigo
Shingles
Urinary tract infection
Consultations with the pharmacists are private and information on the consultation and any advice or treatment you receive will be added to your GP record.
So if you visit your pharmacy or GP practice on this date, remember to show some appreciation to all the pharmacists and let them know how valued they are on World Pharmacist's Day!
